Default Lowering the bike

Ok, so I've had my bike now for about 4 months. I've noticed ever since I got it that it's just a bit too high, and now it's starting to get irritating. At a stop, sitting up, both feet touch the ground with 2 of my toes pretty much, when I should be touching the ground with both feet firmly down. I went by the stealer and asked them how much it was to lower the bike an inch. They quoted it at somewhere between 100 and 150 bucks. I was thinkin 20 at the fricken most. They were talking about all sorts of parts and crap that are needed. Can't I just lower the front end on the tubes and do something similar to the rear end? Are extra parts really needed?

On a second note, I still need to get my suspension tuned for my weight. Anyone know where I can get that done professionally in South Florida? Thanks.

I HAD MY BIKE LOWERED ABOUT 1.5 INCHES COULD GO LOWER IN THE BACK BUT WOULD HAVE TO DO SOME MODIFICATIONS. THE FRONT I THINK IS AT THE MAX. DUDE IF YOU KNOW SOMEBODY DO IT, OTHERWISE LET THE STEALERSHIP GET IT DIALED IN RIGHT. THE WHOLE THING WAS ABOUT 150 INCLUDING THE PART IT WAS A VORTEX LOWERING KIT. ALSO IT HELPS ALOT TO SAHVE THE SEAT. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPEND MONEY , FIRST TRY SHAVING THE SEAT. I DID IT AND WOW WAS IT A BIG IMPROVEMENT AND I SIT MORE COMFORTABLE ON THE BIKE. LOOK AROUND THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW WRITE UPS ON HOW TO...............GOOD LUCK

Yeah, I was just reading the DIY writeup on shaving the seat. I am wondering if that applies to the '06 models though. All the other bikes I tried out had harder seats because they were made out of a very dense foam. The foam in the '06 is really soft with a dense plastic bottom. Unlike sitting on what felt like a piece of wood on other bikes, the '06 636 is more like sitting on a pillow. The DIY calls for carving and sanding, which cannot be done to this type of foam from what I can guess.

I HAVE AN 06' 636. I ALSO BOUGHT A USED SEAT ON EBAY FOR LIKE 15 BUCKS JUST IN CASE I MESSED UP. BUT EVER SINCE I DID IT I FEEL MORE RELAXED IN THE RIDING STANCE AND I DON'T FEEL TOO MUCH STRESS ON THE BACK OR ARMS FROM THE LEANING FORWARD.

if i were you i would only consider shaving the seat, most lowering kits screw up the geometry of the bike substantially even if they say they dont ie. COG and the way the bike will handle and react.its up to you of coarse everyone is different!

dcorlando, the foam is the same type on my 03 on which I did the write-up on. If you use an electric carving knife, it will come out nicer and you can sand the soft foam. Buy a spare seat to experiment on if you're not sure. It's easier than than it sounds.

my wife's bike is lowered ( forks raised 1" and lowering links set to middle whole) and i ride it when ever she will let me. i can tell you this. if you set up the bike evenly, the bike will still handle the same. when i jump on her bike, it feels just as nimble as does mine. when her bike was just lowered in the back, it didn't feel like it handle that well. so if you lower your bike, make sure that you lower both the front and the back for proper handling.

Well, I have decided to work on shaving the seat a bit. If it still isn't low enough after that, I am going to slightly lower the rear end through suspension adjustments. Lowering the rear end only makes the bike slightly less stable under acceleration, but more stable under high sustained speeds.
