How hot is to hot

RE: How hot is to hot
There are coolant additives you can put in to lower the temperatures a little, but sitting in traffic is when it'll get the hottest. Try to keep moving to get more airflow. I just got my header's ceramic coated to keep the engine a little cooler for heat radiating from the exhaust. I have also heard of people switching the plastic fans to metal/ Aluminum fans. I will find out more info about this and post it.

are you allowed to split lanes where your at? cause here in cali we are, and i never see my temp go up that high... i highest i've seen it was 210.....

RE: How hot is to hot
Change your coolant to Engine Ice. It's a little expensive, but worth it. Engine will run a lot cooler. Your fan may never come on again.

RE: How hot is to hot
I had the same question when i got my bike and i called the dealer. the fan should come on at aorund that temp and it shouldnt get much hotter. if im siting in traffic it will usually go up into the low 120's then the fan will kick on and go donw into the teens.

RE: How hot is to hot
o56r you said low 120's did you mean low 220's because if your only goes into the 120's and mine goes into the 220's then theres somthing wrong with my bike

RE: How hot is to hot
The highest I have seen was 225 on a hot summer night creeping from stoplight to stoplight on a local cruise.... Just another reason for me to stay out of the city and on the open roads and turns where she belongs...

RE: How hot is to hot
put water wetter in your coolant and it wont run that hot. i see 220 in traffic so now worries. it says in your manual how hot is too hot it will read HOT in letters i think thats what it says in the manual

RE: How hot is to hot
+1 on the water wetter. I rarely hit 200.... I run a 15% antifreeze in summer with 6 ozs of water wetter, and the rest purified water..

RE: How hot is to hot

hay is there a drain plug on the rad
|
RE: How hot is to hot
question hey i have had a bottle of the water wetter for a month now and am ready to put it in. where is the best place to dump it in? Under the tank in the overflow bottle thing or directly in the radaitor? ( i think the cap is easy to get to) how did everyone else put it in?
|
RE: How hot is to hot
I just added mine to the overflow bottle.....When the bike gets hot then cold, etc, it circulates through the overflow anyway...
And my rad cap is a pain in the A to get to!! |
RE: How hot is to hot
First things first these bikes are supposed to go into those numbers when ridden at slow speeds, I also get the 220s and 230s as well here in Barbados when I ride the traffic plus I have sun all year round, so for me it can be a bit uncomfortable. However please take note th at things happen very fast on sportbikes as my riding buddy took a fall on our Sunday morning ride just by looking down at the gauge as he complained that his bike was overheating. Needless to say it was a real bummer, but at least we were riding slow......and this minimised the damages, so take care not to look at those gauges too often.
