Default Hi all

Hi im new the the forum but not to bikes.been doing the two wheel thing for quit a while.

I just recently added a 96 zx6r to my collection. it was pretty cheap but it came with its fair share of problems. I added a full muzzy exhaust cleaned and rejetted the carbs. all was good for about an hour, started up fine, reved great, and idled. I decided to put new plugs and air filter in.when I had it back together and tried to start it it would only puut over. It wants to start, but wont. I checked for spark and correct gap, there good, I check the air filter, its good. I checked to see if its getting fuel,it is. I then did a comp check, it has great comp in all four cylinders. It should start, wtf did i do wrong!!!!!

Is there some thing I forgot. Any help would be great

thanks

ahhh the mysterious maintenece problem. its too easy to forget something silly when we put it back together, like turning the fuel back on or something. I would check the plug wires, if they are original (and for the price for new ones I'm betting they are) they may have been damaged or not totally connected when you but it back together. use a spark tester to check all 4 and let us know what you find.

Edit: ohh, and Welcome to KF!

There isnt much to go wrong in the airbox but it sounds like you may have messed up the airflow with the new air filter, thus the fix with the choke. The jetting you did is meant to fix the mix when you change the airflow so I'm guessing that since you did the jet before the filter your not getting the right mix. Try the old filter and see if she starts otherwise you may have to re-rejet the carbs to get her back. Let me know if it helped.

Welcome to KF

The bike should start even with the air filter swap out. Back track and check for pinched lines, an unhooked hose, that kind of thing. Good luck.

OKAY I took the new air filter out and it fired right up. I put it back in and it fired up but was lacking power. then progressivly got worse and stoped running about 20 minutes later . wouldnt start, just puut over.

i did check again for pinched lines and unpluged stuff but didnt find anything.

my kawai just dosesnt like me....

20 minutes of poor running is not good on the plugs. What are the pilot screw adjustments at set at?

as Prom mentioned, looks like some carb adjustment is needed if the choke seems to keep it running.

if you broke the carbs apart from each other, off the rail. you will need to resync them. you can have local shops do it or buy the tool and learn yourself. welcome to KF
