Default Dag Nabit- 14/42 :( Not what i thought...

Well it's too late now... But I finished the swap to the -1/+2 SPROCKET and chain (525) service on my 1995 ZX6R. I was expecting a slight loss in top end (speed) but this is a little TOO much.

I used to run at 90mph according to the speedo at 7000 rpm

Now it runs 90mph according to the speedo at 9000 rpm

The bike appears to top out now at about 130mph, I had it up to 110mph and it was at about 11,000rpm.

I guess my Gas mileage is going to suffer signifigantly, I will find out soon. I daily drive this bike and am a little concerned about the long term ramifications of running for long distances at high rpm (aka 75 miles round trip to work/back)

I used to run at about 80mph to work which will put me at about 8000rpm (give or take a bit) a 2000rpm jump.

This combo really did help with the acceleration, and the front end comes up almost too easily.. So they do wha they are supposed to do.. I am just not sure if they are right for my driving style..

Anyways kind of a rant.. Kind of a warning.. take it for whatever you want it to be.

I just did a swap on my front sprocket, (-1) and am more than happy with it. I revs a touch higher, but the bottom end no longer suffers. You also must take into consideration that your speedo is way outa wack now, and you might want to get a speedo healer just for your own safety, and peace of mind. I woul just go back to stock on your rear sprocket and see how you like that. If you like it, Sell your +2 rear on the boards. $0.02

good lookin out, too bad that the conversion wasn't what you had in mind. would you go back to the 15 and leave the 42? that's what i had on my 98 and it was pretty sweet, bit more pop and still decent rev range for the hiway.

damn bro u lost that much top end and gained that much rpm, my 04 i have the -1 +2 gearing and at 6500 rpm i am reading 75 mph on the odometer, now mind u it's a 04 zx 636 but i think the trannies are the same bro, but if they ain't i still wouldn't think u would lose and gain that much tho, and i don't have a speedo healer either

that sux... you lost lotsa top end speed... how fast did it usually go? when i went -1 +4 on my old honda, i only lost like 5mph... im -1 +3 on my 636, and i would say i lost maybe 5-10mph off my top speed. it still goes fast enough to outrun the piggies

I never really went too much faster then 120mph. But on my normal commute to work 35miles one way all interstate I would travel at about 80mph consistantly at 7k rpm. Now I am at 9k at 80mph...

14 teeth front (from a 15 tooth)
42 teeth back (from a 40 tooth)

It feels like I need another gear.. My brother has a 2004 SV650 (suzuki) and He pulled back up to me because I ran out of gearing.. I should have owned him in the straightaway... I used to...

Just be careful about what you modify yout bike with.. I thought this was a standard modification but it appears it can react differently with each model bike. She's fast from 0-100mph but after that she is straining... Up on one wheel all day too....

Put your 15 teeth front back on or the 40 rear. Might get you in the happy middle.

I agree. I prefer trying up 2 on the rear first, and keeping the front stock. This allows fine tuning for me a little easier.

whats wrong with one wheel? lol

if ur all interstate driving, u should get a 35 tooth for the rear. it will be like 2nd gear when your really in first, and your top end will go up by about 20mph

if u keep your rpms right, it shouldnt really effect your performance, just the 0-60 time
