Default Cleaning air fliter?????

OK so I think maybe I should clean the air filter. There is a BMC air filter from the previous owner who raced it at the track. Now I am just wondering how its done? I have some filter cleaner, but not sure how its done. I dont really want to clean it but I was told from the genius' at the stealership that since its a race track filter and the holes are bigger, its really meant for the track, because there are larger particles obviously on the road and such. I know there is only 1 bolt, i looked, but is there like a gas line im going to have to close up, or really is it simple enough to just experiment. And also how exactly is it done from start to finish 1. 2. 3. 4. etc... THAX kawabunga. 1 luv!!

Hey, bro I thought the BMC were disposable and I was waiting to see if someone else had some input.

Well I searched and found this, looks just like the K&N cleaner and recharger http://www.bmcairfilters.com/infoWAK.asp

If it is like the K&N you need the oil to apply to the media so it can do its job. No oil = dirt getting through.

I think it's like the K & N.. I don't run a BMC, I run a K&N.. but, the instructions on their site say you need to re oil. If you do not re oil it, you might as well run the bike with out an air filter. It's the same thing. Recharge kit for a K & N is $10, not sure how much it is for the BMC, but I would think it would be around that price????

On the link Notstock gave you, it details the cleaning and re oiling process....

How bad is it to run a dirty air filter, esp if its a race filter?

well if it's dirty and clogged up, you're not gona get as much air in and you run rich and loose some power, i guess with the ram air there might be enough air pressure in the air box to dislodge some of that dirt and force it through? although i've never personally seen any serious damage come from that right away so it's just my theory
