Default Breaking in

Breaking in my bike is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I just got an 06 ZX-6R, so keeping all that under 4000rpms was a nightmare. But I did it, I'm up to 800 miles and headed to San Diego for Spring Break. I'll have pics to post then.

I never followed the recommended break in....some people I know told me not to even bother with it...ride it hard..forces the rings to seal tighter....all I did was change the oil after like the first 100miles, then at 1000 miles....and she runs great. I know of a lot of people who break in their bikes by riding them hard and have never had a problem

Break in period is recomended for a reason. Reason being the rings are already tight beacause it is a new motor. Keeping the bike under or at the recomended levels alows the rings and bearings to wear evenly, or close to. Going over it or riding it hard will cause premature wear ie: rings wont set right, spin a bearing and other related internal wear. not good Even if your bike sounds good you still might have cylinder wall scaring and other above mentioned problems and your engine could fail due to it, or not. I would rather not take my chances and do it the right way. JMO.

I dont know... This is like a argument about what oil is best... I see the point the guy is trying to make and it sounds good, but you can use the same argument to prove that light break-ins are best and show damaged pistons and say this is what happens when ya race it hard during break-in periods... I personally, because I built a few engines like to do the light break-in because its been tried and true.

Did it hard, not a single problem as a result. Changed oil at 100/1000 miles and all is well...

Either way I think it will be ok, but the guy had real strick guid lines to the break-in, and I think a-lot of people would not not be able to complete them correctly as they would a light break-in... making it a more user freindly way I guess thats how you say it I dont know I'm real sleepy right now, but anyways I totaly agree with the warming up before the hard ride or every ride for that matter. I wont move my bike til the temp reading shows around 100-104 every time I start a ride, good practice.

I changed mine at 500 and gonna do it probablt at 1500 also. I woulda had to cut my first trip short if i had changed the oil at 100 miles.
