Default air filter replacement..

Hello everyone..i have an 05 636 and i'm about to do an oil change on it myself..i've bought the oem oil filter replacement..castrol full synthetic 10-40 oil, and an oem k&n replacement air filter..now the question i have is will i need a power commander to through this filter in?
The person at the parts desk said that i won't have to put in PC until i get some sort of exhaust but no that particular air filter..now i'm wondering how true that is..
any replys are welcome thanks!

Yes filter is OK by itself. Need PC when you add filter + exhaust.

Congrats on doing your own work to, better to DIY then pay the stealership

You do not need the pc. But you can throw a pc on a stock bike to customize your air to fuel ratio. You got to remember your bike was esembled and set up in a different eviroment. So the tuning is not going to be matched up for where you live. Humidity temp all takes part into your bikes performance. You can put a pc on a stock and possibly gain a hp or two.

Also think about machining clearance plus/minus's from the factory.

you shoud get the K&N oil filter too. the nut on the top of it makes it super easy to take off. i believe it is the same size as the oil drain plug as well, and its about a buck cheeper than the oem filter with much better filtration. (my $.02)

I recently installed a muzzy slip on, power commander III, and K&N filter for my '06 636. Now this is where it gets complicated. First, Kawasaki has spent millions of dollars in research developing the ram air system. That said I am getting a wide variety of opinions in regards to the KN. Muzzy won't providea map for PCIII w/ K&N, PC III won't provide map for muzzy. So, a custom map is necessary (I prefer this option anyway -- as every single bike is different even stock. Additionally, where and how you ride impacts. I will be getting the custom map done in a week and post results w/ stock and KN filter both. I am told that the KN restricts flow compared to stock causing loss of 1-2 horsepower. Nonetheless, it isn't always about horsepower convenience plays as anyone will tell you KN is tried and true over time. Oil changes are breeze I prefer to remove the left side (sitting on bike) first then gently theright and reinstallinreverse-- why? You will see that the right side has two tabs that tuck into mid fairing it is easier from my experience to install that side first. If you are going to continue this buy the oil filter removal tool for 7 bones.

To do an oil change, you only need to remove the LH fairing on 03-06's. The RH side removal isn't necessary.
