Default 70 series front tire

I've got an 05 636 and I changed my tires to the pilot powers. I also changed my front tire to a 70 series and dropped the front 5.5mm to compenssate for thr height change. My turn in rate became quicker and got the shakes a little more often. Just wondering how much drop in the front or raise in the rear for anyone with the same mod. Thanks.

How did you dop your front and have you set the sag on yu suspension?

I have pilot powwers as well 180rear and the 70 front. Its like being on rails.

I just sank the triple over the forks, and set the sag for both the front and back about 35mm. Dont' get me wrong, I agree its like its on rails, feels like I can do anything I want anytime in the corners, but was just afraid that maybe I changed the geometry too much and increased my risk of tucking in the front. Or is the pilot powers just steeper than the 65 series batlax? Oh and I did just put on a scotts damper to help with the shakes.
Thanks

i too sank the triple over the forks about 1 1/2 inches...didnt really need to adjust the suspension and it seems about the same, in fact it feels a whole lot better on the turn....i get the shakes a little and firm up the grip and they go away...nothing to harsh.....

All tires measure differently so don't go by the tire size. The best thing to do is to measure the mounted tire height before and after the tire change (when changing tire brands). This will give you the tire height difference and you will truely know how much to drop or raise the front and even the rear suspension. The headshake on hard acceleration is pretty much normal on the 05 636 and the faster turn in rate that you feel could be from the type of tires you just installed. The tire profile has alot to do with this and every brand feels different. This is why the tire manufactures say to take it easy for the first 100 miles. Besides scrubing in the tire, you will learn at slower speeds how the tire reacts to inputs.

Thanks for the input. What front tire and set up are you running on your 05 636?

Well, after reading a tire shootout from one of the magazines, I thought the stock Bridgestone tires were fine for street and track use. I was using the stock Bridgestone tires but after a bad spill at Thunderhill Raceway 5 weeks ago, I will be going to either the Dunlop 208GPA or the Pirelli Diablo Corsa's. Perhaps even a race tire. I don't know why I went down, either something slick on the track or was it the hot ambient temperture at the track (95 degrees). Being out of commission for 3 months due to a fairly high speed crash gives you time to think about why I went down. A stickier tire most likely would of saved me mucho money in the long run, meaning the time off for the bones to heal, bike damage, helmet/leathers replacement. The stock tires did very well up to time I went down, never a slip, always predictable. The only thing I can change to try to defeat my crash are the tires. By doing a tire change to a different brand, perhaps I can get back on my bike and hit the track where I left off.

Keep the rubber side down,
Mike

Sorry to hear about your spill. I'm thinking about trying the power race. I heard the front (70) is much rounder, thus being a little shorter, but more neutral. Dont know though, just cant see changing tires more frequent than already am.
Get well soon.
