Default 2006 636 Engine Stalling

Hey guys...great forum! I have been riding for hell...I'm old...about 13 years now. I have done everything from track racing to stunting. Well, I have about 3600 miles on my 2006 636. On June 13 I was on the freeway riding along at 43mph when the bike shuts off. I quickly made sure the key was on and the kill switch was in the run position. It would not restart. This guy that was riding behind (on a 06 636) me wasn't paying attention and hit me. He was doing 60mph. I broke my collar (spelling) bone in 7 spots, my leg, heel and Ankle. I had frame sliders which really saved my butt. They where the vortex ones...which I highly recommend. The frame slider actually bent my engine mount and now they have to take the engine out to replace it ( . Has anyone else had there bike just shutoff for no apparent reason? Any help would be nice. The dealer found nothing wrong of course. Yes I did a search and did not see anything (I could be blind). Thanks everyone!!! Shawn

Scary stuff. You're probably too experienced not to just panick and pull over. One of those few times when experience actually made a problem worse. I would have first gotten a lawyer before I let the shop touch anything.

Xrider..You’re so right. I just went threw the normal checks as quick as I could to try to restart the bike. I have been down before (2 month stay in the good ol' hospital) and this accident was much worse only because I did not see the guy who hit me coming. I was going around a bend in the road which went to the right and he...I guess was trying to pass me on the inside. He lost control and his front tire crushed my right legged at 60mph. Freaking hurt *smile*. My friend got a negligent driving ticket and we really don't talk much anymore. I got a lawyer and we are getting the max his policy will pay out which is 100 grand. By the time my lawyer gets 1/3rd and my hospital bill was 26K I really don't get much. I get the bike back next Friday and I will be on it that day with all my broken bones. Can't get the bike out of my blood. My wife even left me because I won't sell it. *smile*. Oh well, Bike or wife, bike or wife....BIKE!!!!!!!! I did have them check the kick stand switch. They "say" it tested ok. No mods as far as the engine goes...all stock. Had the normal services done at the dealer when I was supposed to. No warning lights came on. It was like someone reached over and turned off the key. It just shutoff. My friend picked up the bike from the tow yard the next day and it started up right away. Thanks guys!

I would go through every plug and ground looking for something loose. There is also a switch on or around the battery that shuts off the bike in the advent it was flipped I believe (keeps engine from redline but is more problem matic than it is worth).

But really if it was me I would sell that bike as parts and get a new one. Something is wrong with that bike and has not been found so the problem may repeat.

Well I think selling the bike for parts may be a bit extreme. The bike is almost fixed so selling it for parts won't work. I will check out the battery switch that you told me about. Thanks!!!

Did the speedo go blank as well? Other than the engine I am not sure what the switch on the speedo turns off. Maybe look at the schematic to diagnose it properly.

I like cloudy cool dry weather for riding. Less people out and the bike runs stronger.

Could you have accidentally hit the kill switch maybe? It could have been a loose battery terminal. Had that happen with my friends bike.
