Default 2003 ZX6-R battery, spark??? HELP!!

Hello Everyone,
I have a 2003 ZX6-R and I'm new to the forum. I bought the motorcycle in April and haven't had any problems til now. When I purchased the bike it had a PC III installed but not hooked up. A few weeks ago I stopped by a moto shop and had them hook it up and "map" it. Once the PCIII was hooked up my bike started having trouble starting. It would start no problem if it hadn't been running for a bit. When I ride the bike, turn it off and immediately try to restart it, it has problems but still starts. The bike had never done this til the PCIII was hooked up. So I took the PCIII out and gave it to a friend that races. For about a week the bike didn't have any issues with starting and restarting but now it does. I would like to take care of the problem before I get stranded somewhere. I think that it is probably the battery but someone told me that the battery might not be recharging while the bike is running, and it could be the alternator?? Any ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated!!! Thanks.

If the battery isnt charging then it would die and not restart at all. Hot start issues could be caused by a number of things. Have you checked your codes yet?

Default codes

Thanks for the fast reply!!! This is my first streetbike so I'm new to all this stuff. I'm assuming that checking the codes requires a diagnostict test? If so...how can I tell if a shop is good or not? Questions that I could ask and so on. My bike is like a child to me and I want to make sure it is in good hands. Thanks

see page 3-59 in your factory service manual for the diagnostic checks.

pg 16-35 for your voltage inspection

You may want to double check the PC3 program again with the dealer who sold it to you. It could be a PC going bad causing the issue as well. Good luck and get a manual when you can so that your ride is in good hands.

Yep the computer code check is covered in the manual and only takes 5 minutes to do yourself, no need to pay anybody to do it (most people do cause they dont know any better) Let us know what you find!
