2002 ZX6-R vs 2005 GSX-R 600???
Hi guys. I was on the forum in the past but I ended up buying a gixxer instead (don't bug me too much). Anyway, I'm thinking about buying a second bike since my girlfriend is always on mine. It's a yellow 02 ZX6Rand the only mod is a hindle slip on. The bike is mint. I was wondering how much of a performance difference is there between it and my current 05 GSX-R 600? Will I be dissappointed?
Also, is there anything I should check when buying it? Any problem area's?
Thanks,
Rich

It will keep up, kind of...
The 6R is carburated, so the throttle will not be as "snappy". It is a little heavier, but the power is there. My brothers both had 06 gsxr 600's and I could beat them through turns and on straights until they got some experience. Then I had to do some mods. Mine is faster than the 06 gsxr's are stock after some work. It is not a slug, so I don't think you will be dissapointed.

Damn your gf sounds cool.
I have an 02 (it's even yellow) and love it.
As far as performance, I guess the fuel inj. of the gsxr will put it ahead of the old school 6r through the traps (as would the fi of the new style ZX6R).

You can look up dyno charts on the web. The power is a black and white affair. Now, as far as the handling goes, that is a different story... the 05 gsxr has the 02 zx6r pretty much laced. The gsxr has inverted forks vs. conventional, radial brakes vs. conventional, radial master cylinder vs. conventional and even all that is nothing compared to the advanced mass centralization of the gsxr. The gsxr will turn in faster, have more neutral handling, and be less of a handfull in general.
Now guys, don't get me wrong, kawi all the way... if we were talking about 05gsxr vs. 05 zx6r it would be kawi bya long shot.
With all that being said, you are going tohave to be a pretty damn good rider to fully exploit the full potential of the 02 zx6r. If you aren't fully exploiting it's potential, you aren't going to be that much, if any quicker on the newer bike. A better rider will be faster on the older bike no problem.
If both bikes are stock and you want to even the score, tyres are the way to go. The power is probably within 10hp, its going to be the handling that it all comes down to.
