all bikes go fast, it just depends on how far u twist the throttle lol If you feel comfortable on the 636 go for it. Since this is your first bike, just take it easy on whatever you get. This is a very good bike, you wont regret it unless u act stupid on it. So yes get it and enjoy

ask yourself how level your head is and how mature you are. This bike will kill you quick if you try to ride outside you skill level. i started out on one and dont regret it but i have no doubt it would be easier to learn on a smaller bike.

A 49cc/45mph Scooter can be too much speed if you don't respect it. Althought a lady I work with learned to ride on a gsxr 1100. As mentioned, keep your head on and in your helmet, don't ride out of your comfort zone and you'll be fine... Don't let anyone else make you ride harder than you want to!

yeah, just remember, there is always someone out there faster than u. This doesnt apply to the east coast riders vs. the west coast riders. we all know that the east coast is much faster.LOL

I started out with a 250R and I switched to the 636 because the lack of speed. I am happy that I learned on the 250 before because I did some canyon runs on the 250 and I know if I were on the 636 I would have messed up. One reason why I switched is because it is hard for the 250R to keep up with traffic. When I changed bikes the power increase was a biggg difference. Just ride safe and watch out.
