Never used a power commander before.
Questions:
Do you need the software to run one of these things? if i just plug it into a computer will i be able to upload maps with out the software? Can i use any other readily available software to transfer files like rs232 compliant stuff? Where could a fella find the software if he were to purchase a powercommander without it?

If your PC comes with a map already installed your good to go. But if it you want to use your computer to upload different maps you need the software. Everything you need can be found at: http://www.powercommander.com/eng_default.aspx

 

if it isn't coming with software I am assuming you are buying a used one...then hopefully it has a map you can use it in...otherwise get the software and go to the website mentioned above. When you get extra cash get it professionally dynoed too for your bike.
