Default zx10r with a cracked frame

I just bought a 2004 zx10r. After I got it home I took the side fairings off because I wanted to replace the stock turn signals. I noticed a small 1 inch crack in the frame on the right side just above the cylinder head. I looked closer and saw that the front air duct was cracked as well. I called the guy I bought the bike from and he said he knew nothing about it. He said it must of been caused by doing to many wheelies. Has anyone else ran into this problem with there zx10r's? The guy I bought it from says it was never wrecked. I can't imagine wheelies causes that kind of damage.

i cant imagine wheelies doing that kind of damage either...it would have messed the front end up also....like bent the rim or the forksbefore it would have cracked the frame....is it on the weld or near one because as a hobby welder i know that those can break...he must not be telling you something was he the only owner

Welcome bigsig to the forums.
Hard landings on the 10r will and has caused broken parts in the nose. Plus you need to think about the generator and the front wheel. The hard landings will also do the same on the 06-07 models. The 05 fixed the front wheel issue and most of the generator issues.

He was the second owner, but he bought it from a friend of his. I have also notice the right side radiator bracket was fixed with a small metal brace (not factory). The bike has chrome wheels on it which he had the reciept for showing he put them on right after he bought it. The crack runs perpendicular across a weld on the bottom edge of the frame and runs about 3/4 of an inch into the frame rail. The is nothing I can do about the purchase of the bike, I just wanted to know what could cause this kind of damage. All four screw holes that mount the air duct to the front of the frame are broke and where fixed with small metal strips and non factory hardware.

As mentioned above, sounds like someone was learning how to ride wheelies on it and was landing hard. Personnally, I would be replacing the frame.

Kawasaki has the 2004 frame part number as 32160-0021-8F but I went to www.americasmotorsports.com and they had the part number I listed above as the original frame number but listed 32160-0132-8F as the replacement frame number. Does anyone know if this replacement number is of a frame that has had the problems fixed?

That is what I see in the fiche as well as a direct replacement.
