rpms over 4 with freeway speed
So since this is my first bike..im not very inclined on how things work.
now in 6th gear just trying to cruise at 65/70 the rpms reach above 4000.
is that normal?
noticed the break in period 600 miles and dont go over 4000. what happens if i do go over it or is it ok to go over as long as I dont race it.

i just asked 2 questions in one post..lol hope you guys can help me out.

RE: rpms over 4 with freeway speed
I kept mine under 4000 for the first couple of weeks, because I mainly rode around the back roads to get comfortable with the bike(my first one). Once I got my license and out on the road I found it impossible to keep the rpm's under 4000 while just cruising down the highways around my house. Now I did not run the bike hard for the first about 1000 miles of it's life, but I did not following breakin by the book. I have about 3000 miles on the bike now and it runs great with no problems from the engine at all. Don't worry about it and as long as you are not beating on the bike you really have nothing to worry about, enjoy the bike.

yea that seems to be my problem..im trying to shift around 4, but find myself shifting more around 4500 or 5000...now being my first bike...its hard to ride around and watch the gauge and the street at the same time..i just dont want to ruin the bike..if you know what i mean

I understand, but I would not let it worry me. Get out and enjoy the ride and do not worry about the rpms, because the points you are shifting at will do not harm.

keeping it under 4000rpm is less important than not letting it sit at one RPm for an extended time. for propper break in varying the rpm up and down is essential.
