Default Git up n go

Hey guys,

I bought my 2009 650r about 3-4 months ago and I'm loving it. I have a question though for you 650r owners though.

I was up in the mountains having a good time and got behind some slow cars. I waited for a chance to pass and when I did I dropped it in 5th and sped up. I noticed that it takes a bit to really get going. When it does pick up it's very fast, but it takes about 5 seconds or so to really feel like I'm moving. Has anyone noticed this about their bike?

For example I'm passing and start at 60mph. The bike speeds up to about 70mph and then it guns. I mean feels like the bike is trying to get out from under me. This is good, but is it supposed to take so long to really pick up? Am I doing something wrong? I'd love to hear some opinions on this.

Thanks,
Tony

Stock exhaust? I can do 60 to 85 mph in 6th gear in 5 seconds.Mainly due to custom exhaust. The fuel mapping is a bit rich on the stock bike. The engine bogs a bit than starts to run.Mostly its the fuel mapping. If you get a pc5 for your '09 and the right map it will fly.

Yeah everything is stock for right now. That is definitely good information and I thank you! I will definitely get on that.

You're not really in the bike's power band. At 60 you're only doing 4.3K rpm in top, and not much over 5K in 5th. Drop another gear so that the revs are over 6K before you start to accelerate to pass.

60 - 85 in 5 seconds in 6th sounds about right on my stock bike - UK model with O2 sensor and closed loop ecu. That's too slow for safe overtaking unless you've got a really clear view ahead.

I made a custom glass pack muffler for mine , and now the bike is like night and day. no-remapping, just plugged pair valves and removed baffles and secondary butterflies. it does pop but rarely , and its not enough to be concerned. but wow what a difference!
