Word-up.
Yosh's are too restrictive and quiet. You need to get a Muzzy on that thing if you ever want to see some real horsepower.
hahaha, I like looking at my muzzy also. Never tried it but sure looks nice!

This bike is a twin with a 180 firing order and it will never be balanced like an I-4, no matter what exhaust you put on it.
Even a twin engine with a 360 firing order (like BMW's new F800) which has a balanced firing order and therefore idles much more smoothly, STILL doesn't sound like an I-4.
Putting a louder exhaust on this bike will make it sound more like a Harley than a ZZR600 or ZX6R.
Sorry for the bad news, but the only way to make this bike sound like an I-4 is to ride around at very high RPM everywhere.
Good luck and ride safely.

disclaimer:you never were told to slice any vacuums lines here nor does this forum support any slicing on vacuum lines please slice at your own risk....

ha yep chris is right, the noise on a 600cc plus is unique and you should just buy a 600cc+ bike, but if you want it to sound like a 600, thats a little more difficult and bordering on the brink of impossible but it can be done, you will still have that lion roar but a little more tame, if you restrict your flow by taking the y-pipe down to a single pipe you will basically make your bike more prone to hard startups, backpressure, Backfiring at times, and mild sluggish acceleration (if you just cap off the y pipe and keep the same diameter from the headers back that is)... just keep it stock, unless you have a killer deal, and a surefire way of changing it back if you done like it. and for the love of god if you get a pipe jet it if neccessary, but deffinately up the diameter of the pipe headers back...

(Clever job of editing off the end of my sentence, DK.)
That's a matter of opinion, but the fact remains, the 500's imbalanced, 180-firing order is closer to a Harley's imbalanced 270 firing order than the Triumph's balanced 360 firing order.
But look on the bright side: because the Triumph's pistons rise and fall together, the resulting maelstrom of oscillating high-low crankcase pressure mean that bike (even with an additional 150cc) will have less top-end hp than our mighty 500.
That 180 firing order which gives us the wonky idle has the advantage of constant crankcase pressure. When one piston travels upward, the other travels downward. So when the rpm goes up, our 500 struts confidently away from larger Triumphs. (I suspect we might even be able to walk one of the newer 800cc Bonnies.)

HAHAHA! YEP! (#60 vs. #69):

Peace!

lol i didnt mean to cut it off. anyway i got what you were sayin though. compartively, it will sound more like a harley than a zx6r. honestly i think it sounds more like my john deere riding mower than anything else... maybe b/c they both have kawasaki engines in them [sm=smiley36.gif] 500cc ones at that! the JD is rated at a whopping 17 horses... better hold on!

but i dont get how 180 is closer to 270 than 360? or did you mean its more like a harley as they are both imbalanced, whereas the other is balanced?

Funny how we pick things out of what was said.
Never claimed 270 was numerically closer to 180 than 360, but that the imbalanced 500 idle sounds more like the Harley 'potato-potato-potato' than the 360's balanced 'putt-putt-putt'.
Peace!
