Whether its a high demand bike or not - someone out there will steal it. Not too long ago, someone had their older 500 stolen from around my area.

I don't really know what you should get - I keep mine locked up in a garage.

A while back there was a thread about this, I'll see if I can find it.

The Glock 17 is a good route if you like the 9mm round, the Glock 22 is a little better using the .40 round. However seeing how a gun isnt truly practical get an alarm

the chain your talking about will not fit under the seat, heck i'm lucky that my paperwork and my helmet bungee fits under there. we just went through a five finger shopping spree at the malls over here with bikes getting stolen trust me any lock is good, because if them idiots are determined to get your bike they will, its rather difficult at times but they say to chain it to a permanent structure when you can, because my friends where using disk locks and the idiots were lifting the bikes onto trucks and driving off, lock and all. it's not to hard to get another front tire. unless they just want the parts. well do your best at making the right choice, especially when it come time to park it. hell park it in your house, thats how we did it in the good ole days.
