streetfighter look
was just wondering if anyone has turned there 500ex into a "streetfighter" looking bike, i think that just means without the front fairing, i was thinking of doing it to mine with a round headlight or even dual round headlights, the paint on all my fairings looks like crap, so the less fairings i have on there, the better the bike will look, if anyone has any pictures or ideas let me see what they look like, just lookin for some cool ideas, also any homeade fender eliminator pictures would be great, thanks
Just a personal preference, but I disagree with street fighters being figuratively the $hit.
When someone goes crazy with cu$tom $tuff, hides the coolant reservoir and puts some crazy custom headlight on it, a streetfighter looks good. But whenever I see a bike rolling around with most or all of the fairing removed, the first thing that pops into my mind is, "Poor guy. Plastic costs a lot of money these days. Ah well, at least he didn't lose any arms or legs in the crash."
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Peace!

P.S. If bent frames and mufflers cracked open like omelette-eggs ever become the style, I'm in there!!

But the streetfighter look sort of originated from broke motorcyclists making their bikes look as gnarly as possible since they didn't have the money to spend on expensive fairings.
Rattlecan paint is cheap enough and when prepped properly will still look better then a poorly executed streetfighter. Chris is right, there are a lot of things under the fairings that need to be tidied up or hidden from the elements. Bike manufactures get lazy when engineering fully faired bikes as the bits underneath don't have to look pretty and will look crappy when exposed. To do the job to where its actually better looking then just some bad paint, you'll spend more time and money then just repainting the bike.
Good luck if you decide that is what you want to do.
*EDIT - if you're plastics are cracked and stuff then hell yeah try and streefighter it if it keeps you on a bike, but if the plastic is in goood shape, paint it!

well the plastics are in halfway decent condition, it looks like they were rattle canned red already, i'll probably leave all of them on except the lower fairing, i dont like not being able to see some of the engine (in case something goes wrong) i found a pretty cool ex500 site where theres three or four guys that have some pretty good looking street fighter 500's, www.ex-500.com
for some reason i cant get the pics to work
but you can check out this thread on the other forum

reminds me of when i got my bike, haha, i've converted my ex250 to a streetfighter, much cheaper than replacing all the fairings, and i favor the look a LOT more then my previous thoughts on streetfighters. the tank is a bitch, but yeah, has a lot of potential still, fairly clean bike underneath, which is what you want
