Default Spedo Cable - loose

I have the 06 500R.

Recently my Spedo cable came loose while riding in the canyons.... I didn't notice at first but then heard all the noise from the cable hitting on other parts of the bike..... anyways, got it back on and was okay for about 50 some miles. The cable once again came loose, anybody else with the same problem?

Anyways, I'm taking her to the dealer to get this fixed, hopefully next weekend!

D.

this is a common problem. I solved it by putting on low strength loctite on the threads before screwing it back on.

A warrantee item? Man! That's like expecting them to add air to your tires.
It happened on my first two 500's, but so far hasn't happened on my third one...
(hahaha! Because I bought some Threebond threadlock and tightened that sunuvab*&^tch before it had a chance to come loose this time!)
If it came loose down at the axle, rejoice! That's a piece of cake to rectify.
If it came loose up in the fairing, meh... now's your chance to remove your fairing assembly and detail everything on your way in and on your way out.
You'll be more intimately acquainted with your bike (and the job will be done better) if you do it yourself.

Blue Loctite. Is there anybody that doesn't have this done on their bike?

the spedo cable is loose on the top, how much work is it to get to it?
i have worked on my dirt bike before so hopefully this won't be to bed, any suggestions?

I was able to get the cable back on without removing the front cowling. Since it was cramped, I didn't have a good grip. I ended up removing the front cowling just so I made sure it was on tight after I put thread locker on it.

once you get the threadlock on it, it shouldnt come loose if you have it in there good, too much vibration is all it is

I would also suggest using threadlocker or locktite on the shifter bolt. Mine came loose and I eventually sheared it off while downshifting. After I got the new bolt in and put the locktite on it I havent seen it wiggle loose again
