I have a 2002 kawasaki ninja ex500r. I would like to paint my bike metallic black. I was wondering what kind of paint i should get that would work on my bike and how much paint would i roughly have to get?

 

if you want to do a real paint job, 1966 GM black is a standard color, available at EVERY paint store, and has straightforward mixing and application.
standard HVLP, i do believe its a 2 stage, so you'll need to clearcoat it..

as far as a "metallic" black, house of kolor offers some crazy hues, all 2 stage and some are reasonably priced..

if you want, you can rattle can with amazing results.. take a close look at my bike in my sig.. thats spraybomb all the way.
single stage, Duplicolor DSM 340 Royal blue. bout 4 coats worth. not wet sanded or buffed, either.. just sanded, primed, sprayed and ridden.

you have painting experience or know anyone who does it if you don't?

 

Blasphemer! The 2002 Red is the sexiest color ever made and you're going to coat that with asphalt-black? Nyargh!

is it red and what shape is the plastic in because red reallyis the best color. also my 500 doesn't have the 500r sticker out back was it on all of them or what chris? amount of paint: pint of catalized paint would be close black paint over dark primer should be okay but since you have never done it figure more likely need a quart, black is the hardest the get right and shows defects best just so you know. type most auto paint would work.
