Default No gas guage!?

hey, I just got my 07 ninja 500 and there is no damn gas guage... the salesman said that it is normal, but damn does it suck. I was ridin today and ran out of gasa turn lane at an intersection. Kind of ebarrassing if you ask me. Other than that I love my 500... it runs great and is so damn smooth and I got it for a good price.

Yea... I reset it when I filled up, but it will take a few times of running out of gas to get a mileage that I can work with. My damn low fuel light didn't turn on until my bike had already started sputtering.

I get 200 miles per tank.

Also, you should expect to have to switch to reserve on the fly once in a while. I recommend you practice turning the fuel on and off when you start/stop the bike (while you are not moving) without loooking at the switch, so you know where it is and how to get to it while riding without looking down. remember, you go where you look!

Just as good: it helps to practice finding that switch while moving, just keep a mental note which turn is reserve.

feels like the switch is around the vicinity of the crotch (2" left + 4" down).

Maybe silly question...
Should I turn the gas off when parking for the night?
I also fill up after every trip or 2. Just to be safe.
Back and forth to work is roughly 70 miles so a gallon or so usually does the trick.

i always turn the petcock off when i leave the bike. protects it a little more that way.

you get used to knowing when to fill up.

On my second ride after I got my new 2007 500r I ran out of gas going up a hill!!!! Supposedly the tank was filled up when I tood delivery, HA-no way. Here I am going up a hill and it starts sputtering. (I only had 48 miles on the bike!) I pull over onto the dirt, my husband rides up behind me on his BMW and asks what is wrong... "I don't know, it just quit like it ran outta gas...but it was supposed to be a full tank..." of course being a BMW rider he says "what does your gas gauge say, oh yeah, you don't have one..." Needless to say, I switched it over to reserve and pulled over at the first gas station which was about 15 miles away. Let me tell you, that was a long 15 miles, LOL. Now I make sure to zero out the trip meter every time I gas up, which isn't very often because I am getting around 60+ mpg AMAZING! I just love this bike!!!
