Default Ninja 500 as begginer?

I found a Ninja 500 for sale for relatively cheap in my area as I was searching for a Ninja 250 for a begginer bike...
Would a 500 be alright or do you guys think its too powerful?

na, the 500 makes a good learner's bike...A little more power, a bit more weight...if you have ever rode b4 at all, 4 wheeler, dirt bike, then you'll pick up the 500 really easy...if this is your very first time ever, with a clutch in your left hand, you might think about the 250 a little harder...JMO..

I started out on my 500 last year. I have had no problems with driving the bike, it suits me and my riding style. It has plenty of power if I want or need it. I also took a motorcycle saftey course, which I would very highly recommend that all beginners take it. Don't even pay any attention to how much the course costs (here in Canada I paid $360 for three days) - it was a lot of money but I put a higher value on my life than 360. The course will equip you with enough knowledge to help you get started, and to keep you safe.

The 500, in my opinion, is excellent to start on.

My first bike is a 500. I love it. It is easy to ride and handles well! I am driving cross country on move to NY if you are interested in my bike it is for sell for 3,400. I can meet you some were along my path. FYI. I am just trying to get the word out there and hope that someone will take up this great offer before I change my mind and give it to my neice.

it will please you to get the 500 because it is very rider friendly... you'll see. you will appreciate the power without the torque like those bigger monsters out there. i also ride a 04 gixxer 1000, my uncles bike i'm babysitting right now, and when i take her out for her daily exercise, she will light you hair on fire with just a flick of your wrist. what i can do in 6th gear on my 500 can be done in second on that beast i'm watching. but ride safe, so you can ride tomorrow...let us know what you decided on with some pics later.

FYI: if you look into my avatar you will see that bike hiding under the blue covers. That would be the be the beast that i am refering too. I guess one day i will uncover her to show you folks what she looks like, but i don't want to get banned by showing a, you know, yeah one of those sassy suzzies on a kawasaki forum. hee hee hee.... well just let me know if you'all want to see her. trust me when i say, i got her tamed she will be very respectable... hee hee hee.

Yes, completely correct!!! I have taken a course last year, about $230 for 2 days but well worth it!!!
Since I ride dirt bikes and have a bunch of friends with street bike history I was pretty aware when driving in my car, but after the course I even got more aware of the bikes on the street when I'm in my car - so people that drive cars could well benefit from this course as well. You also might get a discount on your bike insurance for taking one of these!!!

I am looking to pick up one of these withing the next month or 2!!

One of the bikes from the Laguna Seca from last weekend, and since I'm replying to Bluebird here is some blue!!!
