Gutted the cans, easy w/capitol "E"
I saw this mod in the DIY section but didn't need to remove the cans from the bike. Used a 1-1/8 bi-metal holesaw, drilled the end roughly centering the saw in the indent at the end of the can. then simply gave a gentle twist with a pair of pliers, snap and it pulled right out. I fished out the packing and used a small grinding tip in the drill to smooth out the edge in the can. Gives it a solid thump and happily eliminates the scooter sound under 4k. I also drilled and adjusted the fuel screws under the carb to 2 out, pulls smooth and rips to redline, will even bounce the front wheel up on launch, add a second bounce when she kicks up in the RPMs, partly from fork rebound but definetly got some more spunk. Total cost, $23 for the holesaw and arbor. A pair of turndown tips will probably find their way into the cans in the near future. Noise is evident till about 40 MPH where it fades out at cruise, unless you are really spinning the motor. Jim.
if you did a fender eliminator... you'd never get water on your back. the way the tail section is designed makes it impossible. the fender is there to hold the tag not to keep you dry.
I usually lead on our group rides and have been behind a de-fendered ZX6R in the rain, it stays! That was my brother's bike and his soaked back and the spray in my face, (for the few minutes I endured it before passing him on a 3 day rain filled trip), were enough to convince me to leave it. Don't worry though, when my Givi rack and Pelican box get bolted up back there nobody will worry about the lack of appeal my "rear" has! Jim.
