ex 500
Well first of all welcome to the forums, secondly introduce yourself in the new members area and third you could drain it all and put in the right amount to make sure, other than that I don't really know.
The 500's forks do not have drain bolts at the bottom. (Seems like the only bike to have these anymore are the KLR650.)
You have to remove and open the forks, pump the old oil out, replace it with new oil, pump the forks a few times, then carefully measure the distance from the top of the tubes.
It's not a simple thing like a motor oil change. I recommend getting a copy of the Factory Service Manual (which is different than the Owner's Manual) and supplement. This book will describe it in detail and even include picturesjust follow it like a cook book.
And finally, the fork oil doesn't have to be changed as frequently as motoroil. After changing out the cheap stock oil, I usually change mine every 20,000 miles.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

You have to remove the handlebars, press down the disc-caps at the top and pop out the $#&^% circlips, which is explained in detail in the Factory Service Manual, as I mentioned in my previous post.
