Anyone have a Ninja 500 manual for a quick look up?
I need to know what the two tubes under the seat are...looks like they are coming from the engine/gas tank. one is clear, another is black. Need to know what they are and if they should be connected to anything. Thanks!
The clear tube is probably the fuel tank breather tube.
Is this a California-model or a 49-state bike?
Where are these hoses connected?

the black one is likely the fuel tank breather tube and the clear one I would guess would be the vent tube from the battery maybe. Post up a digital pic and I'm sure we could help you a whole lot better.
Vent tubes should be routed so that they are able to drain to the ground and hopefully nothing on the bike.

Yeah, I actuallly have a manual somewhere that I actually read through. As soon as I find it I'll let you know, but I think that's standard, my '05 Ninja 500R has the same two tubes that vent under the seat. Some of these other people seem to know what they are and why but I didn't.
I took mine into be serviced shortly after I bought it used and asked them to give it a check-up and other than clogged carbs theytold me that everything was fine with the bike and just keep the oil changed. I figure they would have said something if that was abnormal.
It's hard to tell from the manual but it looks like there should be a battery vent hoseand I guess what these other guys are saying, a fuel tank breather tube too.

are these the two you speak of?
the battery vent hose (not pictured) will be (surprise surprise) connected to the battery!
the black hose in that picture is NOT a tank vent, its a drain for the area around the fuel fill cap. in case you spill gas in there, or water gets in there, it wont just sit there, it drains out that black hose. the tank vents from the cap.
the clear one in that pic is the carburetor vent hose. you can remove it if you like.
