Default What is this????

I've pasted two pics below of something I noticed leaking on my '07 250. There is a slight red circle in the first pic showing what the 2nd pic is a picture of. It's leaking in that spot. Anybody know what it is? I did just barely clean and lubricate my chain, so could it just be that??

aww man..

the only time i've seen something like that was on (both) my 600's when the mechanical seal went out due to bearing failure.. (at around 30,000 miles)

kinda hard to see if thats just road grime stuck to your bike tho...

brakleenthe area, and run it at idle.. watch for a leak for anything... give a few light revs now and again, but don't ride... just to rule out the possibilty of road garbage...

and welcome to KF!!!!

Turns out it was just from cleaning the chain. I hadn't cleaned it for a while so it accumulated a lot of grease and gunk.

How often are you supposed to lube the chain and what's the best method to lube it without spraying the lube on the tires or anywhere else on the bike?

Snowburt80,
You'll get hundreds of recommendations on this subject, but here's my 2 cents worth. From my experience and what I've seen others use, go with DuPont Multi-Purpose Lube.

It comes in a blue aerosol can for around $8, easy to find at good hardware stores. This stuff rocks! It goes on clear and wet, but quickly dries with minimal stickiness. It seems to stay very clean, with absolutely NO fling-off. It has received excellent reviews from Webbikeworld and MCNews. I've used Bel-Ray, PJ Blue, Motul, 90 wt gear oil and this stuff. Every time you spray it on, it will also act like a cleaner, so the cleaner you get the chain before the first time, the better off you'll be. Use it every 300 miles and you'll be fine.

lol.. good deal it was only that.. i kinda figured it was chain crap, being the bike is so ne, but man, ya never know...

if you ever get to the point to where you think the pumps going out, oil will show up in your cooland, and possibly vice versa. oil turns white and nasty with the presense of water as well..
