RPM's @ idle HELP ASAP
I am buing an 05 kawi 250. I went and checked it out today and have given the guy a deposit already. I need to know ASAP if its normal for the RPM's to linger when you rev it up while in neutral. The bike had been idling for 5-10 minutes to warm up, and the choke was off, But when we revved the RPM's to 4000 and released the throttle, the RPM's wouldnt drop immediately back to idle, it seemed to take a few seconds. Thanks
I don't know on that bike... Mine does not do that.. as soon as I let off the throttle, she goes right back to idle rpm.. Every bike I had has done that.... Might be normal on the 250, but I wouldn't think so......
Well, we think that the bike may have still been cold. It had been idling for 5-10 mins when it did it. But after my bf took the bike out for a spin it didnt really do it anymore. It must be extremely cold blooded.
jayden, heres what i gathered.
bike 1. 2005 ex250 700 miles. i fired it up and imediatly tried to red line it being it was cold, ok not red line but 3500 to 4000 rpm, hit 3500 and dropped back down like it was suppose to. messed with it, could not get the rpm's to hang. test rode it, all good.
bike 2. i want to say it was a 2000 mabey, older with 16000 something on the od. obviously this bike has been ridden hard and put away leaking. plastics on both sides had scratches. bike had new signals and new mirrors on it and jim at the dealership said the guy just gave it to them and didnt want anything for the trade in. ok so i get the key, fire the battle bike up and let it set for about 4 seconds, on this one i tried to kill it, 7000 rpm and it dropped like it was suppose to. o hell ill try it at 10g, no problem, keep in mind this bike should have some problems or die or smoke or just die. nothing ! this pos rode better then the 05 but sad to say i couldnt find anyone that had heard of the rpms sticking, one guy said its normal for it to rev down slow but not stick. thats all i gathered from my mission. that and i rode hell out of some 250's and i might go back and buy the battle bike. lol when i go back ill go in the day when all the techs are there even though i dont trust them ill ask anyway.

My zx7 does that, it is slow to return to idle, I do not think it is 3-4 seconds but a slow one for sure. My r1 is normal, off throttle and it goes quickly back to idle.
It used to bug me but the bike runs good and when ridding it there is no problem. I had wondered if the ignition advancer would have anything to do with it.
