rear tire replacement...
Alrighty i have 5300 miles on my bike and it looks like the factory rear tire is already in need of replacement. I can see what appear to be wear bars in the center grove. Does this sound right for the life of one of these tires with lots of high speed highway miles?
The OEM Dunlop K630 tires are possibly the worst tires ever made! Maybe not the worst, but they do wear down quickly, and do not provide much grip either. I just passed the 6000 mile mark on my '06, and ordered a set of Pirelli sport demon tires as my next replacement. Many pre-2008 250R riders have said a lot of good things about them, so I thought I'd give them a try. Unfortunately, I have been waiting two weeks now since they are on backorder.[:'(] I'll let you know how they work if they ever come in.
Im probly going to get another OEM rear since the front still has lots of life left. I figure after i wear out this new rear and the old front ill get a set of the sport demons.
I just paid $140 to replace my rear tire. Front has plenty of life still, but I wanted to go with something different. I doubt I'll run it bald, though.
I don't really care for the K630, but it'll work for now. I thought it was an extremely small tire when they brought it out. Looks like it'd fit on my Yamaha RT 100 (3.00x16).

5,300 miles? not bad, my former Buell Blast was same miles when rear tire replaced. it was OEM Dunlop. but now I'm midnight shift at Fed-Ex airport, I still riding my Ninja on cold surface highway to work, I used to rode my Buell Blast on daysandhotted surface highway, it will going to be interesting how many different miles between hot and coldsurfaced effecting to tire's wear out. I brought my new Ninja in one and half months ago, it's now 1,200 miles. I sold myjunk Blast, I feeling lot of better.
I agree that the current tire size is enough. It dosnt get loose through corners and if you hit second just right you can lift the front end. So i dont see much room for improvement in the tire department...
But at anyrate i ordered a new Dunlop through the dealer in down, $114
. Should be in on friday wich is good becouse its been raining here and the bald rear makes some of turns kinda exciting...
