Default New to ex250 but need help

I got a hell of a deal I could not miss. I do not even know how to ride. I found a 02 250 for 500 bucks but here is the catch. The bike was a stolen and recovered bike and the owner just wanted to get rid of it. The owner has the keys but guess what the keys dont work now because the theif hotwired it and busted the lock and gas tank. The owner says he knows it runs because the police caught the theif while he was riding the bike. The bike also was spray painted silver and grey by the theif. I guess the short term goal for me is to see if is running. How do I go about seeing if it will run? I have no idea how to hotwire? Which wires can I jump to see if it will run? The long term goal for me is to get this back to stock and be able to use keys for it. I see they have lock sets which includes keys. Can I just purchase these and install them? Please help me out. Here are the pics. Are there anything else needing replacing such as solnoids, cdi, or coils? Also how hard is it to get the spray paint off and get the factory condition back? Here are the pics.

Sounds like you will have some wiring to replace or reconnect. Check this link it shows the OEM parts for your bike, start at the ignition lock and check to see what you have and what you do not have.

The paint may have dogged your plastics, unless you prep and repaint or buy new.

Still not bad for 500 bucks, good project bike.

Have fun and welcome to KF
