I've been eyeing this bike in my apartment complex. For some reason, I completely MISSED that it wasa 500, not a 250. I really feel dumb now. The 250 seems to fit me like a glove, and it would be perfect for getting me from campus to work (7 miles one way), but I would like to get on the interstate after I gettired of stop and go traffic mid-afternoon. Also, it appears as though the window on the 250 seems rather short, and the seat doesn't look like it would be very comfortable for leaning forward to reduce the air resistance. Do any of you feel like you are going to blow off the bike? Does the 500 hold up better than a 250 on the interstate? Does the 500 offer the same performance as the 250, just a a little better?

 

Well yes the 500 does have better wind protection and more power for interstate riding, however I used toride on the interstate every weekend last summer, I was comfortable, usually riding upright. I got used to the feel of the wind at those speeds. At first itll tire you out kinda quickly at firstbut after you get used to it at least for me I dont really feel the wind at those speeds at all anymore or cross-winds for that matter. And if the 250 fits you like a glove (same here) just get a aftermarket windscreen to help with the wind protection at interstate speeds. I personally love my 250 and I wont ever get anything else Ill just customize to it fit me accordingly. Thats my .02 at least hope it helps.

 

I haveowned both bikes in the past. I kinda liked my 250 better than the 500. JMO but i would go with the 250. Besides, its also alot of fun in the twisties and city driving. You can flick that bike side to side with ease.

 

Thanks! Hey Gotrice, you mind mentioning some of the pros/cons of each bike? I went to the dealership a few minutes ago for the first time. There is a 500 here next to my apartment, but the thing was REALLY small. That's what I get for not checking all the sources first I guess. Maybe they just put a 500 sticker on the side of the bike, and it wasn't so. Well, after going to the dealership, I am convinced that a 500 is WAY too big for me. The 250 on the other hand, was a little bigger than what I thought it would be, but I really like it, and am still convinced that is the bike I want. So, throughout the years, have the bikes gotton larger/bulkier in size?

 

Hey Trev i just bought my 250 last oct. and i too was looking at the 500, but i'm glad i got the 250 handles Great. the 250 really is a great bike.

 

I think the 6r will feel just as lean but still demands a respectful control.

 

how big are you? a 250 is a small bike man. youd be surprised how light a 600 is.

 

I am 5'10" and 150lbs soaking wet. I mentioned in a different post that I went to the dealership and was suprised how big the 250 was and star-struck at how big teh 500 is! There are two 500s in my apartment complex on campus, and they were smaller than the 2007 250 was! What's up with that?

 

My 250 is the same length as OD's '05 636. My seat is actually higher and OD's bike only outweighs mine by about 45lbs. Handlebar and seat position are the biggest differences because I ride both....we both do. The tail on his is higher than mine. OD took these pics last week. I did get new bigger tires on the 250 two weeks ago.

 

What year model is the 250? Do you feel safe on it on the intersate? That's pretty much the only thing I am worried about is that I will get a 250 when i should have bought a 500.
