Default Do I need a new tire??? (Pics)

I've got an '07 with only just under 5000 miles. Does it look like I need a new tire (see pic below)? If so, what tire do you recommend I purchase? I mainly use the bike for commuting to work and I only work about 10 miles away and it's a pretty boring and straight ride. I would like to take up some mountain canyons around here, but like I said, I mainly use it to commute. I'm looking for a tire that will last long more than give me speed performance. I also still want it to do great on corners and in wet conditions, but longevity is more important than speed performance.

Wow you should have gotten more then 5k out of the stock tires. I bought my bike with 4700k on it and the rear tire
looked replaced not to long before buying the bike and the front tire looks original still with the 8400 miles I have on
the bike now. Do you have a lot of stop and go on your commute? The tires should last 7k easily.

Yeah, I figured they'd last longer than 5K. I bought it used when it had just over 3K so I don't know if the kid that had it before me just ran it hard or something.

I agree that both of these rear tires need replaced. On the street, I am happy to get 4000 miles with a set and that is with a sport tour tire like the M1, 208's,etc.

edit: but sizing dictates also on what is available for this ride.

Take care of the tires...and they'll take care of you.

5,000 miles on the OEM Dunlops is about average. Both you guys need to get new tires ASAP. At least on the rear. There are "wear" bars built into every tire, when you have worn off those bars, the tire is done. Officially, 1 mm of center groove tread is the recommended service limit. Don't push your luck.
