Default 500R rear shock?

Tried doing a search but couldn't find much, but I've heard the 500R rear shock will bolt up to the 250? Is this true? I know someone did it earlier but didn't give any information that I saw about installation. I don't like the feeling of the rear shock, real soft and would like something a bit sportier.

hmm, just bolting the shock up is cool, but you need to set it up for you to coincide with the front setup.

A ZX600 shock will bolt up as well, it lowers the riderless height an inch but if your heavier you wont get the sag like when you sit on the stock shock so its about the same as stock ride height when your on the bike.

I just picked up a ZX600 shock for $25 because Im heavier, if your lighter the EX500 may be better. The ZX also has a damper and gas adjustment, the EX500 only has one adjustment. Right now Im in the process of tracking down a shock pump so I dont damage it.

I dont know if youve looked into stiffening up the forks you will want to do this as well. You can use EX500 fork springs (I have these) or get some from racetech. What you weigh with gear will help determine your optimal setup. IMHO the racetech can be a bit stiff but the 500 springs and GVE would be the best investment and more optimal setup for most riders. The forks should be adressed before changing the rear.

You should be aware of www.ninja250.org. There is a current discussion at that site about whether or not a 500 shock (which does fit) is stiffer than the 250 shock. One of the members is undertaking a comparison of the different shock options by doing measurements of the springs and shocks.

If you read the date of that actual initial topic it is 1 1/2years old, its just that someone dug it up recently. I know the info about the ex500 shock is still in their FAQ, the others in the discussion are admins and if anything had come of it the FAQ would state it, as they keep it fairly current.

You really need to take all those replys into consideration not much came of it, you might notice the person initially quoted had never tried a 500 shock on a 250 they made speculations. There were comments from 250 owners (somewith track time)with 500 shocks and their experinces didnt support the initial theory.

Anyone ever tried the Hagon Monoshock? I know it's a little pricey, but it should be a direct fit without altering the rideheight and give adjustability.
