250r Idles Fine Then Runs Too High in Rpm? What Gives?
I have a 08 250r that ran fine for the first 300 miles or so. When it hit around that mark I started to notice that it was running too fast. When I start it up and let it warm up the Idle is fine - around 1300-1400rpm. Good to go. So I start driving and after about 5 minutes of driving when I stop for a light or so the idles up to about 2200rpm. If I shut it off and restart the idle returns to normal 1300-1400 rpm's. Then if i continue to drive and stop at another light- the idles back to around 2200. The real issue is that the engine speed at high speeds is too high also. For the gear ratio the engine should be running at around 7000 rpm for 60mph right? My bike used to do that but now when I hit about 60 its pushing around 8500 rpm. 70 mph is about 10000rpm. thats way too fast. I'm not sure what could be the problem to make it run about 1500rpm faster than it should. Any suggestions?[

Check the idle adjuster black **** straight about the gear shift. Let your bike warm up, then ride it for a couple of minutes and then put it in neutral and adjust the idle using the ****. This **** after a while starts to move and it also sticks out just enough to almost be moved by your left leg when you are hugging the tank on the highway. It could easily have been moved on an accident or over your 300 miles, it might have slowly shifted one direction. Try this first before touching the jets in the carb for air/gas changes. This will be the free cheak. Touching the carb could be costly, but since it is new, if the Idle Adjuster **** does not work, then take it back to the dealer. It should still be under warranty. Let them jack it up so that you don't have to pay any out of pocket.
