Default 08 250R SPEEDOMETER

Has anyone had any issues with the speedo being off on their new 250? I took mine out on the freeway for about 1.5 miles just to see what its going to feel like. I was following a friend ahead of me who said we were going 60 and the bike said I was going almost/at 70mph. His speedo is correct.

I only tried it once so Im not sure if I was just catching up to him (dont think I was) or if this is an issue with any other bikes?

Input is appreciated! Thanks!

I have been wondering the same thing about the speedometer so yesterday I took my GPS with me and found that while the odometer showed 65 I was actually doing 60. So, they are at least 5mph off.

thats ~10%

at 20mph it should read about 22 - when it reads 100mph it would be going 90 etc.

I haven't checked the speedo, but the odo seems to be w/in 1%, or so.

I believe there is a federal law requiring odometers to be within 2-3% of actual mileage. I'm sure I read that somewhere.

I don't know. Could be. I actually think there is some law, ref. speedo's, also. Something like they can't read lower than your actual speed.

Yeah, lower than actual speed would be a very bad thing![&:]

you can - even mechanical speedos can be adjusted. there are shops that specialize in checking and correcting speedo accuracy. around here if you speedo reads low and you get a ticket. take the car to one of them and get proof that the speedo was off and you will reduce your ticket possibly down to a fix-it ticket (depending on how fast you were going)
