05 250 ninja problem
This may been quite long but I need help with this.
I purchased my 05' from a friend in march, started riding in april. One morning I was riding to work. Came to a stoplight that wasn't changing for me. Like a moron, I decided to put down the kickstand and hit the buttom so I could go. Thought I had the kickstand down, but it wasn't. Damage: broken choke lever, would still start and run. After ordering the part and getting it, put it on,installed it without any problems. About two weeks later, I dropped the bike again, this time, got to work, with the bike, dying over and over again. Had to get it fixed by a shop. After hundred bucks, the choke cable was reconnected on the engine side and a new spark plug installed.
So now here is my question, with the choke being correctly installed + cable working correctly, to start the engine, I have to have the choke lever to the highest position, I was told I needed to have it in the lowest position(pointed towards the back of the bike),
Which position should i have it in when I'm doing a cold start? and if the highest position isnt right, why is it only starting in that position and how do i correct that? is it the idle screw that's messed up?

you need to move the lever towards you, which would be from front to back ,for cold start. hope this helps.

It sometimes has a hard time starting, also I can smell gas when it's pointed towards me.
