Default Ninja 250 Temp Problem

Temp gauge does not read anything even after its been running awhile. Everything is connected just fine. Anyone have ideas as to the problem or do I need to replace the thermostat?

Default RE: Ninja 250 Temp Problem

well first off, welcome to KF!!

ok..

the thermostat itself isn't gonna make a difference in the gauge registration.. theres a1 pintemp sender on your radiator.. (well, there should be, anyway..lol) in most cases, power is applied FIRST to the gauge, then the ground is sourced to the temp switch, which is a thermo-resistor.

temp goes up, resistance goes down, and the gauge gets more juice flowing thru it.. therefore, the needle rises.

ground the wire going to the sensor directly to the frame or radiator... (well, test it JUST to make sure this is how your temp wiring configuration is..)

if the gauge runs to full scale hot when grounded, you're looking at just replacing the sensor. if theres no change, then te gauge may be dead.

if its a 2 pin, the power is going thru the sensor first...lol.. DON'T ground that out.... i don't know if i'd suggest jumping 12V to the gauge tho without knowing exactly how its wired.. might be a reduced voltage signal, and not 12V..

the 2-pin thingy is normally a themal on/off switch for the fan.. i'm willing to bet that you have a 1-pin sensor somewhere on the radiator feeding that gauge..

keep us posted, and good luck!
