Vulcan 500

My Vulcan 500 dies after running for about 5 minutes. I've replaced the spark plugs. What else should I try?

Dose it shut off when you unplug the battery ?

I've never tried that. Someone else is telling me that I should take off the carbs and clean them. What do you think?
