Default newbie saying hi

Hi there, just a quick introduction..a 40 yr old carpenter from Oregon, I just bought a 2010 klx250 sf after not riding for 15 yrs...I have tons of questions, I'm not really a mechanic but I'm gonna try to learn. Have been lurking and reading but I have so many questions I figured that I had better sign up and introduce myself. Call me carp if you like, it kinda stuck from another forum...

Thanks you guys! I live in the central willamette valley.... close up to the coast range. I am really exited to be riding! I will post some questions up on a different board.

That's beautiful country and you have some wonderful riding opportunities. The ADV / dual sport community there is quite active.

Hey, your right, it is nice here! IF you can deal with rain.... but there is a lot of riding to be done, even close by.
I have a question that someone may be able to answer easily... my new to me KLX has a strange looking "custom" canister type of thing that seems to vent for the carb. i have a manual ordered, but even in the schematics I have looked at I've had a hard time telling what it, and/or what was originally supposed to be there...I will post a few pics and see what you guys think. Thanks in advance for any input!
It is mounted by the horn, and connects to the carb by the choke on one side as well as the opposite side. The hoses are blue in the pics

Hey Carpenter, I am as new as you are! Enjoy that KLX man, looks like an absolute blasts, especially where you are riding it. Northern VA isnt very conducive to any kind of trail riding unless its done on private property... Pretty sure most of our bigger parks and trails are restricted to non motorized vehicle use.

Welcome to the forms. My cousin who is from Beaverton and me from Forks Wa have ridden the forest service areas down outside of Bend a few times. Its a great place to ride.

This was our first ride in 2009.

Might be that you have a model that has a charcoal canister to contain vapor from the carb vent.

Post in the KLX250 dual sport section here to see if someone else knows.

You will have a lot of fun riding dirt/gravel roads. I have a 650, but the 250 is more fun, more agile, easier to ride a bit more aggressive. Love it!
