Default New to the forum and motorcycles

Hello everyone, I've never owned or driven a motorcycle before but I got the itch recently and I've been looking for something inexpensive to get me to work and back (20 miles of highway). I might have narrowed it down to a couple but I'm not real mechanical so I've got questions, which is why I'm here.

I'm from North West MN, married with 4 kids and they keep us busy. I like camping, fishing and video games when I'm not busy with the other things in life.

Welcome. Post up your questions. And please take a motorcycle rider's safety course. Well worth your time and money. The kids and wife want you around for a while!

Welcome, Stat. I obviously support your interest in getting a bike. Living in MN, I'd suggest a dual sport which you could use to not only commute, but in your "off-road" interests, as well. Agree with ID^, we all want you around awhile, so take a training course. The savings can be amazing if you commute regularly by bike instead of car/truck. Lotsa KLX-KLR knowledge in this forum. Let us know how we can help.

This was a common issue with deej before he knew how to ride. Always getting stuck in a small rut in life. ( I bet he asked for help to push the bike out of the rut as well.) LOL

Yo, Stat, you still with us, man? Or are you busy with "the other things in life?" (Good lord; there are other things in life???) What bikes are you considering?

I'm still here. The wife and I took the kids to Grandma's and had a long weekend without kids. Traveled in our "new to us" motorhome. So I was away from the internet for a while.

I had it narrowed down to an 85 Kawasaki 454 (most probable) and a 83 Maxim 650. Neither were near me but were located in Duluth MN, where we were taking our trip. But both fell through so now I'm back to the drawing board and searching for something. I've never driven a motorcycle and I do plan to take the course to make sure I'm safe out there.

The issue I'm having with getting something newer is that I don't have a lot of money to spend. Ideally I was looking for something that I could get on a trade. I figure something under $1000 might be in the range that I can make a trade on.
