New Chick in Town!
Hi Y'all!
My name's Kate. I'm from TX and have wanted a bike for some time. I've decided my present for getting out of grad school sane is just that. I'm thinking a Ninja 250R is a good starter. It may be snubbed by some, but I have no business going super fast right now- I need some basic skills first! and of course I'm still researching as I have been for some time, but I've pretty much decided. Just gotta save up now!
Sooo I'm here to learn, and willing to listen to any advice/input etc.

i think a 250 would be a good start especially if your new to bikes and wanna see if your gonna like them. you already sound intelligent by adding your getting better skills and dont wanna go fast right away lol. better than most on this board. (including me i guess since i started with a 750 lmao)

The Ninja 250 is one of the best starter bikes. You'll learn a lot from it. Think about an older one, as it'll force you to do some of your own maintenance and you'll learn more. It'll also hurt less (in the wallet) if you drop
it, as you're almost bound to do.
If you buy new, get the dealer to fit frame sliders before you take delivery. When you lose you lose balance in a tight turn or hurried stop at very low speed, or just forget to kick the stand down, they'll save the plastics.
Sign up for an MSF course before you take delivery. Don't forget the gear as well as the bike. Helmet, gloves, boots and jacket. I hate seeing an attractive woman carrying unnecessary scars.

The ninja 250 is an awesome starter bike. I started in 94 on a 92 ninja 250, and it was plenty powerful.... for a while anyhow.... for me. I learned a lot from that bike as well as the MSF course. Of course, after the MSF course, see if you can find a sport bike class. The Air Force offers one for us, and it teaches better "sport bike" riding than the MSF. Enjoy.
