Default New and 06 650r issues

Let me start by saying hello

I got a 2006 ninja 650r for fathers day and oh boy has it been trouble. First the battery was dead and reading the forums i decided to replace it.

I ordered a new starter relay/ junction box because when i am trying to start all i hear is a loud multiple click. I have tried jumping from a known good car battery obviously not running.

But the real issue i noticed today is that i tried turning the crank and it only moved a little to the right and then i could move it a little to the left. So i decided to pull both covers to see what was going on inside. And of all things murky brown oil..... I figured head gasket but wanted to make sure.

I poured some coolant into the radiator and it came right out the stator side :/ need some advice. I am mechanically savvy but new to working on bikes. Please help so i dont have to rip apart the whole engine..

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you may have a heap of trouble there.
You're going to need to determine why the motor won't turn over. I'm probably not the guy to give advice as I'm also savvy but no mechanic, but I'd probably start by pulling cam and engine covers to look for broken bits or whatever is keeping the motor from turning over. How did you try turning the crank? Where is the coolant exiting? From the motor?

Thanks for the reply
I pulled both side cover and will be pulling the valve cover gasket tonight. Tried turning the engine just like a car and put a socket and a 1/2" rachet on the crank bolt and tried turning it but the bolt only wants to tighten when moving the ratchet towards the rear of the bike.

I can move the actual crank to the left and to the right maybe an inch or 2. When i pulled the right side cover i noticed what looked like a coolant and oil mix.

As far as the coolant leak, when i pour coolant into the radiator it immediately pours out the left side of the bike at the stator cover.

The oil looked fine minus the coolant. No metal bits or shavings at all.

I think my KLX turns over counter-clockwise but not clockwise. Ratchet on the crank bolt is correct. I think coolant can get into the oil through either a bad head gasket or a bad water pump seal. Is the coolant coming out from the motor itself, or from a cracked or disconnected coolant line or radiator? Pics?

If the engine isn't turning over, I'd be looking for an interfering valve or something lodged in the rotating gears, cam chain, etc.

Yeah ill pull the valve cover tonight but the coolant comes right out of the motor on the stator side. Ill have pics tonight after i get off work.

Edit #1 so i pulled the vc off and just my luck both cams have the intake notch facing up

Ok so worst news of all pulled the head and dropped an exaust valve and it broke...then the piston on the right side of the engine is either frozen at the low position or dropped the piston. Will have to pull the other half apart and see whats going on with the crank.

Thanks for all the help ill get her going when i can.

Tough break on the new ride. A new/replacement engine may be cheaper than a rebuild of a damaged engine for this ride. (if price was an issue of course)
