Default First Sport Bike - 05 ZX 636

Hey All,

Im new here, and to motorcycling in general. Ive had my M1 for about a year, but got laid off right after receiving, so I never got a bike until now. I got an 05 ZX636 about 2 1/2 weeks ago with 7700 miles and a two-brothers dual underseat exhaust.

Just wanted to pop my head in and say what's up.

Welcome to the forums, dude!! Bike looks great! Glad to see that helmet on, too. Can we assume you're back on your employment feet? (Hope so; being laid off sucks.)
Take your time to get to know your bike. Practice "smoothness" and remember it's the small learning increments which really add up as you get more proficient. I ALWAYS plan on a car coming "around that next corner."
Gear up; stay safe, and welcome, again!

Congrats on your new ride. You must understand your limits, otherwise you may have not picked this ride as your first motorcycle. Nice bike, a steep learning curve for anyone, but congrats and gear up and use your knowledge/control.

Welcome to KF

Yea, the employment thing has been taken care of... Been at the new job since Aug. So far, the only gear missing is the gloves... And boy do I wish I had them...

Got cut off in traffic yesterday and did a combo lowside/nosedive at about 15 mph... some guy in a truck cut in front of me and almost clipped my front tire with his back bumper... Had to lay the bike down on its left side... my left palm got all chewed up, sprained left thumb and shoulder, bruises on the left hip... But I got up and walked away. The jacket and denim saved most of my left side...

Damn California drivers... The guy who cut me off kept going, and the cars behind me only stopped long enough for me to pick up the bike and push it off the side

That sucks. get healed up. At least you were wearing some gear that seemed to have helped.

Bike didn't fair too bad. It's at the shop right now and the insurance claim has been opened.

Damages: Clutch lever bent, left bar-end destroyed, left mirror arm broke snapped, shift lever snapped off, left foot peg snapped in half, hood scratched, left mid and lower fairing scratched, tail fair scratched, left passenger peg scratched, right mid and lower fairing scratched, right mirror scratched, both front turn signals scratched, right foot peg and passenger foot peg scratched. Also wont start (batterys dead?)

The bike went down on the left, but the damages to the right were from the tow truck driver dropping it on the flat bed. Altogether, I'm thinking around 2500 worth of damages? We will see once the estimate is done.

wow, $2500 in parts if the tank and frame was not damaged may be pretty close.
