Hey I'm new to all this and I really wantthe 2008 250r, but only one things holding me back.

The new style 250 looks really cool, but the back tire looks totally out of place..it looks like im riding a bicycle. Can I widen the back rim? Buy a wider rim? Keep the same rim, but buy a larger tire?

I know the 2008 has a 130mm 17in wheel, and I would be happy with 160mm in back.

What do you suggest I do?

 

Get new wheels if you want bigger tires...or buy a bigger bike. Ask this question in the 250 forum and those guys can probably be a bigger help than I....Welcome to KF

When DG had her 250 she threw on a 190 on the rear with no problem...

Would a 190 really fit? the rims are really thin and thats like a 60mm jump..

 

2 issues: Geometry and Power. Installing a wayoversized (versus spec) tire on your bike can make it a dangerous proposition due to the geometry change. You can feel the difference just moving from a 180 to a 190!! It may look cool, but you would likely get more than you wanted in anything other than a straight line. The other issue is power. You'll be feathering the clutch to pull away from a stoplight to get that big donut turning. Not cool on a 250.
ZZrick is right; get a different bike.
