Another newbie from Georgia
I just (today) bought a 1984 KDX200 so I can keep up with my 7 year old son. We bought him a small 49cc Chinese bike for $125 not knowing how well he'd take to it. Well, the phrase 'like a fish to water' comes to mind. When looking for this one, I also found a 110cc 4 speed 4 stroke bike that has been put up until he gets a bit bigger. I wasn't looking for anything special when I found this KDX200, just a cheap bike that would get me where I needed to go. I've had 2 street bikes (550cc Kawasaki and an old Handa CB450), but never a dirt bike.
I am an ASE certified automotive tech with a little over 20 years experience. I've only piddled with bikes though, so this will all be a learning experience (YEA!)
I've been looking for info on this bike when I found this forum. It seems my sticky clutch is normal (will try Type-F trans fluid), good to hear. The engine is flooding out at idle and smoking pretty bad from the exhaust. At WOT it runs much stronger then I expected (I was very impressed), but at part throttle it cuts out and smokes a lot. I'm going to take the carb apart and clean it out tomorrow, so maybe this will help. I know it's running rich because it fouls out the spark plug. Not asking any questions here (yet!), just rambling on I guess.
Anyway, sorry for the book, and thanks in advance for helping me out with the many questions I know I'll have.
