Another newb
Hey everyone. I'm new to this site so I figured i'd post up my boring story of my first bike for a first post. I finally decided I needed to have some more fun and figured I'd get a bike. It was a PIA trying to find one in my price range. I was just looking for a beginner bike and nothing crazy. My friend was selling an older yamaha that I almost picked up for $1800 and that thing was ugly but I didn't really care since it was going to be my first bike. Fortunately I was looking for a bike at the right time cause my friend told me about one of his buddies was selling a bike for $3000 and told me to come by his place to check it out. It turned out to be a 2003 zx-6r. I took one look at it, had him start it up, ran to the bank, came back, and handed him the cash. Keep in mind I never test drove it. I must admit even though I knew it was gonna be fast, I didn't think it was going to be anywhere near as fast as it was. It has a muzzy pipe and a k&n filter. Also came with a warranty until 2008. Not bad for $3000. But anyway I love that thing and I don't regret getting it one bit. Unfortunately I moved to florida for school and had to leave the zx6 up in NY. Shipping prices are rediculous. So in the meantime i'm just saving up to fix up the minor blemishes it has. It doesn't make sense to spend all the cash to ship it down and back since i'll be done here in a couple months even though it would be nice for the summer. I can't wait to get back home and get that thing out of the shed.

Oh yeah I forgot to add that it really is going to end up costing about $3500-3600 cause I had to put a new clutch and tire on. Plus there is a small crack on the lower left fairing cause the guy I got it from accidently leaned the bike on his jet ski and one of the foot pegs cracked in half. All it needs now is the fairing and foot peg. It also has 19,000 miles on it but at least it has the warranty until 2008. But it still runs great.

Just curious. How long do these things run for as far as miles? And what oil should I use? Is there a good synthetic for these things?
