My nephews and I recently purchased a 2015 KX85. Seller said it needed a top end rebuild and was confirmed with zero compression.
after putting in a new rebuild kit, the bike fired up easily enough but has a loud noise coming from what seems like the bottom end. When replacing the piston, there appeared to be no play in the main bearings and it moved freely.
We removed the stator cover to inspect and it seems there is some play when spinning the stator. The noise didn’t disappear or get worse when the gears were engaged. They are Yamaha boys and this is their first Kawasaki. Am wondering if this is a common sound or something more dreadful.

Also, excess smoke was coming from the bike and lots of spooge from the silencer. Didn’t seem too blue or have a different smell but I am leaning towards a passing seal on the main bearing on the clutch side.

Any members have either of these issues before and able to guide us in the right direction ?
