sounds like a 250 would be fine for you. the spark arrestor does just what it sounds, it stops sparks from coming out of the exhaust. it doesnt make it any quieter tho so if you dont like loud bikes then this would be a problem because the 250 is anything but quiet.I put on an aftermarket arrestor made by Billet that replaces the factory end cap onthe exhaust system, you can buy an extra piece for noise reduction to quiet the bike downto legal levelsbut it doesnt quiet it down that much its still loud, actually all it does is direct the exhaust downward to the ground. It sounds just like the bikes you see Stewart and Reed racing on sunday's, loud. I dont know what the laws are in Australia but in the us you need a spark arrestor and it has to be quieter than 96 dbl. so far the maintenace has been easy, oil changes, chain lube, etc. no valves yet for me but I would be interested to know where to get this cd that shows the procedure tho, I have the manual but every bit helps. Actually I enjoy doing the mechanical work myself.and although I dont have the hour meter it is a good idea.

Good luck
Paul

Apparently bikes have to come OEM with spark arrestors in Australia, so I'm fine in that department.

For some reason my dad has the idea that the racing bikes have ceramic pistons and need to be completely rebuilt after 20 hours......I have no idea where he got that idea from.

I think I will go for the 250 if I can convince the old man. And regarding noise, I love beefy, loud 4 strokes.

Default KX250F definitely!!

What's up Matt? First motocross bikes are not that much maintenance. I've rode for about two years, and i just bought a 09 KX 250F. I use it for trail riding and racing. It does require a little more maintenance than a true trail bike but as far as the 250 or 450. Definitely the 250. My buddy has a KX450 and it takes a lot to get it going. He's about 50lbs. lighter than me and my 250 will dust him off the line. It really depends on what you like i like the snap off the line that the 250 has. The 450 is ok but you have to slip the clutch like a 2 stroke to get it going off the line but once you get to about 3rd gear here it comes. All in all though i would get a 250 they jump way harder and use much less gas than a 450.

how loud is kx250f compared to a kx450f? we already own a kx450f, and i DEFINETLY know how loud that is. Does it come close? louder is better. heck with the neibors.
