94 kx250 kickstart spring question...
Hey guys...newbie here and to dirtbikes in general. Picked up a 94 kx250 [what a choice for my first bike huh ]. So the kickstart lever would kick and start the bike but didn't like to come back up and stay in place. Took the engine housing off, reattached the spring in what I think is the correct configuration (from looking at parts diagram). Her'es what confused me...so i lput the leve back on the shaft to test it's operation and it seems that the spring actually wants to assit the lever in going down. I thought it would want to assist the lever in coming back up and staying in the upright position. I haven't put it all back together and have attached a pic. DOes this look right to you guys? And am I crazy...I would think the spring would bring the lever back up...not help push it down????

RE: 94 kx250 kickstart spring question...
Not sure I can help but I had that problem on an old 92 KX 250. The spring is a real pain to get on an off. I had to do it about 10 times to get it right. If I remember there is a plastic piece behind the spring that gets twisted off the shaft as you pull the spring off. Make sure that is tight against the inside, always slips to the side croocked. Trial and error I guess.

RE: 94 kx250 kickstart spring question...
spring looks kool from da front. i had to pre-tension my spring on 1990 model. to do this, pull the assembly out bout half an inch (trying to clear cog on clutch basket) and making sure front of spring is still engaged in retainer. twist the full assembly anti-clockwise until there is tension on the spring and the ratchet return tab on the back of the assembly will engage on its stop when assembly is fully re-inserted. tab has to be vertical for this on my bike. it can be kwite fiddly but i got it to work evenually. hope dis helps!
