While doing the first oil change, I discovered there is no way to hold the oil filter spring in position while installing the cap. I watched a youtube video where the guy had to tip his bike over sideways so the spring would stand up vertically on the back of the filter chamber while the filter and cap were being installed.
I discovered a better way by putting a small magnet INSIDE the spring. The magnet and spring can now be stuck onto the metal end cap of the oil filter so it holds the spring in position while putting on the cap. I tipped the magnet diagonal which holds it captive inside the spring to make it impossible to block the bypass valve

This makes installing the oil filter a snap!
I put a little grease (BelRay waterproof grease that I use for wheel bearing on motorcyles) on the end of the spring. That holds it in place.
The grease will melt when the oil gets hot.
I thought of bending the last ring of wire to make the base diameter of the spring large enough to grip the 4 prongs, but spring wire can sometimes snap.. The magnet also acts as a "filter" attracting any ferrous metal particles from the engine and transmission wear surfaces suspended in the oil. Since the drain plug was out I drilled it and inserted another magnet to do the same. Magnets are quite effective because there is no limit to the size of particles they can attract and hold.
